The Artists Company (TAC) is a collective based in Singapore that works across fields of art, design and cultural research. TAC is a re-imagined vision of a group of artists about precisely what a company made up of artists can and could be, where the collective focuses on discursive process-based projects and research experiments. The collective has collaborated with institutions, art groups and researchers to explore ideas of art production and curation in exhibitory, research platforms and public artistic interventions locally and internationally.
Texting Red, White and Black
Second Series +

How possible is it to communicate with people about art through the common system of “texting”? Communication is thought of as the act of conveying meanings from one to another using mutually understood systems of signs and symbols. What forms of communication exist to disrupt or unite people who share a common space, identity or history?
During the performance, we seek to release the perfunctory gesture of “texting” from the dross of practicality and information dissemination into a participatory and performative gesture involving all within the shared space. Our performative gesture attempts to oscillate between these spaces of connection, ambivalence and alienation, where we subjugate ”texting” as a tool of information dissemination and attempt to communicate the catharsis of our antagonistic relationship with technology.
It is through the time and space where “texting red, white and black” takes place that participants get to explore the liminal state in communication between individuals through this performed common system of “texting”.
