Sophia Dominguez

Sophia Dominguez (b. 2000) is a young visual artist and is graduating from the Diploma in Fine Art Programme at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Her practice explores the discomforts of the female body through performance, video and photography. She draws inspiration from her own writing and experiences or literary texts. Dominguez was awarded the NAFA Talent Development Programme in 2019, she has also exhibited in the Shooting Home Youth Awards 2019 show at the Library@Orchard, Singapore and the It’s About Time 2019 Exhibition at Supernormal, Singapore.

'Still Human' is a performance reminder of our mortality. Inspired by a play on hell, this fear of eternal restlessness as the purpose of eyelids to moisten our eyes would cease to exist. The artist prys her eyes open to let them stay open and recovers in 3 minutes. Still Human would be a proof and play of the uncomfortable reality and gaze.
