Laura Pelea

Laura Pelea (b. 1999) is an aspiring artist currently pursuing Diploma in Fine Art at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). Her artistic practice explores themes of time, space, and identity where she represents her ideas primarily through photography, video, and performance. She has participated in exhibitions including Fine Art Atelier Showcase: Creative Assembly, NAFA and It’s About Time, Supernormal Space in 2019. She recently interned for curatorial projects at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and facilitated in various projects like the Yellow Ribbon Project, SAM Mini Mobile Museum and the Singapore Biennale 2019. Laura is currently working on projects that encompass the ideas of the female body and identity.

‘I am just grooming.’ is a performance for video in which the artist, Laura Pelea, plays with light, shadow, and her own portraiture. Her actions of grooming portray a fraction of her daily routine in tidying up herself. The work may also evoke the idea of womanhood, or maybe, quite simply, just a person with long hair.
