Sharmeen/Sifar

(b. 1981) Storytelling has been an artery of Sharmeen/Sifar’s practice for the last 18 years. She uses various mediums to communicate her thoughts and style, with video being her oft-used tool. She has put her camera and editing skills towards collaborating with any interested community in Singapore, in hopes of visually presenting lesser-known truths. Topics of social urgency, such as natural history and ignored societal lived experiences are a driving force for her to coalesce and devise her works currently.

From the last decade, she has explored using installation and performance and hopes to continue merging her lived truths with her craft. From 2018, she has been on the organising team of Freedom Film Festival Singapore and has a video project with the last street vendors of Singapore, in collaboration with artist Tan Biyun.
