Jireh Koh is a multidisciplinary artist who aspires to bridge the sonic, visual and the physical in his practice. Starting out self-trained as a painter and a countertenor, he has since expanded into many mediums such as installation, sound and performance art, exhibiting his art in London, Indonesia and locally. Coming from a classical background, he is interested in integrating and subverting the traditions in which he comes from. In his practice, he attempts to reconcile perceived dichotomies such as science and spirituality, music and art, ancient and modern and the East and the West.
He sees the experience of art as an essential way of knowing. In his works, Jireh explores and plays with the occult quality of art, in which art can occlude, conceal, harbour and reveal deeper meanings through the process of an encounter. Jireh received his formal art training at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Anahata II: Meditative Kinetic Painting

Second Series + 3 Mar 2019 Stamford Arts Centre
The 2nd part of a series of installation works, “Anahata” or “Unstruck Sound” is part sound installation, part kinetic painting, part durational performance – combining sound and visual art through the means of science and technology. The music piece used in the installation and performance, arranged and recorded by the artist, is inspired by World Music, drawing references from the traditions of Celtic folk music, Hindu mantras and Gregorian chants. The utilisation of the randomised, ongoing loops of layered sound alludes to eternal return of phenomenon and the originality of experience, where elements repeat through time but are never really quite the same again as before. Through the artist’s voice, the sounds of faith are visualised through the dance of oil and water - a dynamic interplay of opposites creating an ever-changing painting.

I ❤️ Dinosaurs
I make funny noises,
I play movies in my head.
I do weird things with my voice,
And tell people what I have read.
People think I am strange,
But what is 'Normal' anyway?
'cos even if I wanted to change,
I was born this way.
