Isabelle is a Singapore-based artist, researcher and curator. Using her training in Molecular Biology, she creates new kinds of scientific method-based artworks. Working closely with scientists, she encourages others to cross the divide and take on the role of scientist in her interventions, whether in a class, during a workshop, or as part of an installation. As such her work has often been labelled as participatory, with “experiment” being a strong part of her practice. She received her MFA from Lasalle (2011), was the recipient of the French-Singapore New Generation Artist (2011), and of a Lasalle Research Fellowship (2017). Her work has been exhibited in museums across Singapore, in Japan and USA. She teaches regularly across disciplines from pre-school to post-graduate level, and currently runs a residency space in a pre-school, inviting artists to experiment and let children into their processes.

Rien Ne Se Perd (Nothing Is Lost) - The Trees Are Just Waiting For You To Die

Steeped Strong +

7 Dec 2019

Far East Plaza 01-81

Isabelle's Rien Ne Se Perd (Nothing Is Lost) - The Trees Are Just Waiting For You To Die is a performance lecture.

Are humans really part of nature? Should we be afraid of trees? When I feel scared while walking in the forest, am I just imagining things? What is the scientific argument for trees? Should we rather all live in concrete cities? Why are there ants where I put down my cup? Is this a flower or is it a weed? Does the sun have to be so bright? In this short experimental piece first shown at Art Stage in January 2018, the artist takes on her scientific curiosity to explore ecophobia. In the age of climate change, her message cannot be ignored.
