Glenn Lim (born1993, Singapore) is a multi-disciplinary artist working through the notions of trauma. Spanning sculpture, performance and installation, his works are broad in material but all share a sense of intimacy. His practice owes much to the heavy influence of his personal narratives. Often performative in nature his objects blur between performance and sculptures. As a whole, Lim attempts to navigate within the poetics of loss and absence.

You were still alive the last time we spoke

Born from the artist’s personal experiences, the performance expands his investigation into the affectatious relationships between bodies through objects and gestures. In the performance the artist, through the intimate gesture of breathing, melts the block of ice, freeing the fish embedded within it. The work extends the act of breathing and creates a gesture that amplifies the futility within the work. The performance would end when the fish is freed from the block of ice. Within this work, the artist would attempt to explore the different connotations of a ‘breath’ and the nuances it carries.
