Eng Kai Er works in the field of contemporary performance. She successfully completed a fake PhD in Choreography through fPhD (2011), where she wrote a fake thesis and defended it in the presence of a fake committee. Other than through this self-awarding of an fPhD as part of an art project, she has, up to this moment, no other qualifications in any artistic field. She works internationally and has performed in Malaysia, Australia, Czech Republic, France, Belgium, and Sweden. In Singapore, her performances have been presented through M1 Singapore Fringe Festival, M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival Open Stage, Substation’s Directors’ Lab, TheatreWorks artist associateship, and the group exhibition ‘Dissolving Margins’ at Lasalle’s Institute of Contemporary Arts. In her most recent public performance, Blunt Knife (2019), she inline-skated, confessed secrets, and challenged her audience in gentle and cruel ways.
The Treasury
Third Series + 29 Jun 2019 42 Cambridge Road
The Treasury is a 15-minute, intimate, one-to-one multi-sensory performance first developed at the Whisperlodge SG: 2-Day ASMR Workshop organised by Melinda Lauw and Loo Zihan. The Treasury invites one audience member into a quiet, gentle encounter. It takes place in a small physical space, where ever-attentive care both focuses and enlarges the experience.
