Bernice Lee is a contemporary dance artist from and in Singapore. In her creations, she deals with time as primary material. Her labours are rooted in improvisation and sees art-making as a form of social activism.

In Untitled, she aims to do nothing while still showing up in person and on a screen, making a avocado sandwich using Gardenia rolls, and massaging someone's foot green.

Local Domestic Dancer

Seventh Series +

'Local Domestic Dancer', the performance, can only happen once, in the privacy of my own home. In it, with only myself, my stuff, and the ghosts as witness, I daydream of everyday heroism to the tunes of Sezairi's 'Fire To The Floor'. I learnt about this song recently, because it features in The Necessary Stage's 'Those Who Can't, Teach', now online.

This video is part of my #ghosting work, where I seek to weave and collage multiple stories, even as I use my voice as a privileged woman on social media (@bleelly) and the internet. Through dancing, I attempt to reset the frame of gazing and invite audiences to pay attention to what has disappeared and can reappear.
